Honestly, Rin was starting to feel confused. Why was she calling him? He was waiting for that other guy! But then he hears it. Wasabi buns... The Wasabi buns have landed and it takes all of his self control to not burst out into a fit of laughter.

Should he reply back? ... Probably not. She did say she was going to hang him by his spine. That sounded painful.]

[A few hours later, another message comes. Maka sounds calmer this time, but--]

Don't bother making anything for me again, because I'm not going to eat it.

[HE - HE MIGHT HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT MAKA'S CALL considering how he had to deal with Alice and actually leaving a message for Kaneki after but - but!! - but!!!

BUT MAKA WAIT!!!]

It was a one-time deal! And I 'pologized!

So? That was a shitty thing to do, you know, he really enjoys food! I don't know if he was ill or had difficulty eating in his own world or what, but he looked so happy eating your buns and kept talking about how great they were, and then you pulled that!

[The long and short of it is, really--]

When I saw him reacting like that and I couldn't help, I couldn't even prevent it, I was so angry and scared. I don't care if it happens once or no more times, it happened and there's consequences for hurting people when they trust you, Rin, no matter how small. And me, personally, I hate lies and tricks.

he's disappointed people before - or multiple times - far too many times. the last time he disappointed anyone - really, really let them down - it also had a way of blowing up in his face. had he known that Kaneki was really that pleased about receiving food, he wouldn't have -- then again, he probably shouldn't have committed the prank in the first place...

[And that's her stance on it, she's not writing Rin off--hell, people have done worse directly to her and she managed to forgive them. It's just...a prank, anyway. Boys do those kinds of things. Kaneki, bless his soul, probably just wanted to move on and wouldn't be happy with Maka holding a grudge about it.]

We're still friends, I'm just gonna have a hard time trusting you in the future.

[Just to...be sure he understands that, she doesn't want him to think that she's ending their friendship--one that's gone on for longer than hers with Kaneki--over hot buns.]

...You can start by looking out for Kaneki from now on. He gets into a lot of trouble, even when his Zangoose is with him, even when I'm with him. Maybe he'll trust the word of another guy more.

[Friends have always been precious to Maka, more valuable than gold--it's still a wonder to her every day that somehow she has friends, and she made them all on her own. They don't care about her father's status, they don't ask probing questions about what her mother's up to, they're her friends.]

Actually your stunt illustrated to him exactly why he should trust what I say, but I don't think he does it maliciously--Kaneki just wants to give people the benefit of the doubt.

...Which he shouldn't, for obvious reasons. Obvious stuff-besides-you reasons.

Rin shares the same opinion about friends, but perhaps with a little more dragon-hording-gold tendencies. Friends were great but friends needed to be protected at all costs. Friends could get hurt. Friends could definitely fend for themselves BUT IF DANGER IS NEAR then into the cave they go.

Except Maka. She could help defend the friend-gold-nuggets. Give him two more chapters to figure out that his friends do not need a protector.]

That's not bad and all, but if he can't judge a person well then he's screwed in the real world. [Really now, Kaneki didn't take the clear warning signs of Rin's behavior and Maka's verbalization. Rin would like to think he was a good judge of character, demon senses aside. OH WAIT A SECOND. SUDDEN REVELATION!]

Hey, this is actually a really good thing, right? That means he's learned not to take food from strangers!

What he should have learned is to listen to me and not think I'm just being paranoid. But I already gave him the lecture about that, I don't just spout bullshit, why would I? To turn him against you? That wouldn't make any sense, it's not like you're a bad guy.

...I'm going to make food for him from now on. Just so he knows where it's coming from.

[He laughs a little at that, in part to hide his embarrassment from that statement. They are friends. That's the important thing. And maybe Kaneki's a friend too, if he's not too mad at him. It would make sense, since he did mess with the guy's food.]

Hey hey, I get it. The guy's pretty gullible, but you think he's really the type who'd listen? Even if I told him to stay the hell away from the green steamed bun, I think he'd still take it.

...You want me to show you how to make some stuff? [Even as he asks, he's not sure if it's such a good idea. She's definitely still mad and it'll take more than just cooking... but he figured he'd at least ask.] That way, you can make the best food for him. Since he's your friend too.

I don't know a lot about cooking Japanese food, at any rate. Mom only showed me a little bit before she left. And if I'm being shown by you, that cuts down on potential for you to make mischief anyway.
