[All aboard the friendship train! Now serving: hot buns for days
Rin shares the same opinion about friends, but perhaps with a little more dragon-hording-gold tendencies. Friends were great but friends needed to be protected at all costs. Friends could get hurt. Friends could definitely fend for themselves BUT IF DANGER IS NEAR then into the cave they go.
Except Maka. She could help defend the friend-gold-nuggets. Give him two more chapters to figure out that his friends do not need a protector.]
That's not bad and all, but if he can't judge a person well then he's screwed in the real world. [Really now, Kaneki didn't take the clear warning signs of Rin's behavior and Maka's verbalization. Rin would like to think he was a good judge of character, demon senses aside. OH WAIT A SECOND. SUDDEN REVELATION!]
Hey, this is actually a really good thing, right? That means he's learned not to take food from strangers!
What he should have learned is to listen to me and not think I'm just being paranoid. But I already gave him the lecture about that, I don't just spout bullshit, why would I? To turn him against you? That wouldn't make any sense, it's not like you're a bad guy.
...I'm going to make food for him from now on. Just so he knows where it's coming from.
[He laughs a little at that, in part to hide his embarrassment from that statement. They are friends. That's the important thing. And maybe Kaneki's a friend too, if he's not too mad at him. It would make sense, since he did mess with the guy's food.]
Hey hey, I get it. The guy's pretty gullible, but you think he's really the type who'd listen? Even if I told him to stay the hell away from the green steamed bun, I think he'd still take it.
...You want me to show you how to make some stuff? [Even as he asks, he's not sure if it's such a good idea. She's definitely still mad and it'll take more than just cooking... but he figured he'd at least ask.] That way, you can make the best food for him. Since he's your friend too.
[And even though Maka gets along better with Kaneki, it doesn't mean that he's any less her friend than before.]
[A moment of consideration--well, he's right, Rin's simply The Best at the cooking thing, and Maka wants to make the best if she's going to serve it to other people.]
I don't know a lot about cooking Japanese food, at any rate. Mom only showed me a little bit before she left. And if I'm being shown by you, that cuts down on potential for you to make mischief anyway.
[That's a "yes" in a very backwards Maka way.]
I already told him that I'm not a prodigy at it like you are, but I'd do my best.
[................ Maka please. It's flattering, but he's not about to entertain a high pedestal like that.]
I'm not a prodigy, I just like to cook. That's the only reason I'm good at it.
Anyway, since you already know about Japanese food, it's not gonna take you long to pick it up. You got the hang of making rice balls, right? You're already one step closer!

[CALL HIM SENSEI. OR SENPAI.]

Yeah but then there's stuff like sukiyaki, right? That takes a whole lot of preparation and patience.
[Which Soul often says she lacks. Woefully lacks.]
