[Lookit this face! Lookit this bright, shining, smiling face that's ready to take on the whole world by storm! And why is that? It might have something to do with that kick-ass badge from the Violet City Gym that he's holding up to the camera.]

They did it! It took a while to figure out how to take him down, but they did it! He only gave me one badge though. Shouldn't there be one for each of them? Guess they'll just take turns. [Like good siblings should. At least he hopes they'll share...] Look at them! They were so happy afterward, I had to treat them to something great today! And since I can afford as much food as I want now, there's more than enough reason to celebrate!

[The camera turns around to take a good look at the champions. All of his pokemon are having a picnic in the nice, clean, garbage free Violet City. It's an impromptu picnic with a (real live) picnic blanket and lots of different kinds of home-made pokemon food and drink. Pidgeot's already cleaning his feathers while Cyndaquil sleeps on a tiny corner of the blanket. Lapras is swimming off its meal and enjoying the better weather more than any of his pokemon. And what of Poochy? She's still enjoying the food and finishing what the others couldn't.]

[The camera creeps closer to Poochy until it's nearly right in her face. She growls slightly.]

Poochy didn't want to battle. [Rin reaches over to pet her -- and she lets him without complaint.] You're not a battling type of girl, are you? But I did find something you were good at. She's better at it than the others are!

[Poochy almost seems to smile as she inches closer to Rin. She adores the praise.]

She eats anything. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have figured out how to make all of this food for them. Right, Poochy? [Poochy barks~ and returns to her meal.]

What sort of food do you feed your pokemon? They have that stuff at the Center and in the Mart but not everything's fresh. [Most of it's like instant noodles -- instant pokefood. And box stuff. And he'll only feed them that when he has nothing to give.] There's a pokémon restaurant somewhere, right? With high-class foreign food?

[Sentret continues eating her celery.]

Yeah. Since I can't eat any of the animals here I have to make the meat I bought last. The woman at the Mart couldn't tell me where the meat came from though. Sentret and Spearow don't know either. There has to be some animal that's being killed for it. Do you know?

[Apollo doesn't know what "potato chips" are, but he doesn't bother asking. He looks past Rin at the spread in the background.]

I don't know what any of that food is.

[Sentret seems like a very mild-mannered pokemon. He'd ask if all Sentret were like that, but it was a redundant question.]

I don't think any of them know or they won't tell. It's weird not knowing what it is, but it does taste okay. Then again, I'd rather know what I'm eating. What sort of meat did you have with you?

[The minute Johto's meat supply turns out to be something unsatisfactory he might turn vegan, but that's a discussion for another day.] It might be another pokemon, like some sort of edible species. Other than that, I have no clue.

[He's a little proud of the meal he's made, even if he's not entirely sure how good it is.]

Most of it's just stuff I put together for them.

[Sentret just knows that there's no one around who wants to bother her. They're all being taken care of by the fight-happy Spearow who's level grinding off-screen. Plus she has celery~. Omnomnom.]

None of the meat has much taste. [He hunts so he's used to really gamey meat. Everything else tastes kind of bland in comparison for him.] I want to know what animals it came from too. There's some that tastes kind of like boar, and something that's like a bird. Some kind of fish, too. And there's something that the woman called "beef". No deer, bear, or rabbit though. [I'll just assume that the menu in Johto is the same as on Earth.] There has to be some animal that's being killed for its meat. Meat can't be growing on plants.

"Put together"? [Because "cooking" for Apollo begins and ends with "holding meat over a fire until the blood stops flowing".]

Really? [Rin's used to store-bough stuff. It tastes different with different seasonings?] I've never noticed... [That he failed to notice will bother him enough to make a more thorough examination of meat flavors.]

You've eaten bear?! ...They can't sell that sort of meat if it's not around. I haven't seen a single deer, bear, or rabbit around here. [Man, what world do you come from?!!] ...Maybe it's all tofu?

[...If he has to, Rin would show Apollo how to make food taste even better than recently killed.] Yeah. I just put it all in a pot and hoped for the best.

You don't pay attention to how your food tastes?

I've eaten all the different kinds of animals in the forest. Bears are hard to kill though, so I don't eat them very often.

[He's from the future~. With giant robots fighting other giant robots sent by a scorned gay angel... Oh wait he doesn't know that yet. Pay no attention to the giant robot behind the curtain.]
