4th Struggle [Video/Action] Zephyr Badge getto da ze!

[Lookit this face! Lookit this bright, shining, smiling face that's ready to take on the whole world by storm! And why is that? It might have something to do with that kick-ass badge from the Violet City Gym that he's holding up to the camera.]

They did it! It took a while to figure out how to take him down, but they did it! He only gave me one badge though. Shouldn't there be one for each of them? Guess they'll just take turns. [Like good siblings should. At least he hopes they'll share...] Look at them! They were so happy afterward, I had to treat them to something great today! And since I can afford as much food as I want now, there's more than enough reason to celebrate!

[The camera turns around to take a good look at the champions. All of his pokemon are having a picnic in the nice, clean, garbage free Violet City. It's an impromptu picnic with a (real live) picnic blanket and lots of different kinds of home-made pokemon food and drink. Pidgeot's already cleaning his feathers while Cyndaquil sleeps on a tiny corner of the blanket. Lapras is swimming off its meal and enjoying the better weather more than any of his pokemon. And what of Poochy? She's still enjoying the food and finishing what the others couldn't.]

[The camera creeps closer to Poochy until it's nearly right in her face. She growls slightly.]

Poochy didn't want to battle. [Rin reaches over to pet her -- and she lets him without complaint.] You're not a battling type of girl, are you? But I did find something you were good at. She's better at it than the others are!

[Poochy almost seems to smile as she inches closer to Rin. She adores the praise.]

She eats anything. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have figured out how to make all of this food for them. Right, Poochy? [Poochy barks~ and returns to her meal.]

What sort of food do you feed your pokemon? They have that stuff at the Center and in the Mart but not everything's fresh. [Most of it's like instant noodles -- instant pokefood. And box stuff. And he'll only feed them that when he has nothing to give.] There's a pokémon restaurant somewhere, right? With high-class foreign food?

Why not a name for a sheep, like -- ... something not like a weapon. [okay he has no good names. He'd go with something generic like "Cottonball" or "Sheep". Or "Sparky".]

Because that would be boring plus tasers are pretty mild. [Blunt and to the point.]

Isn't the phrase suppose to be "cold turkey?". I hope you're not going to take that kind of approach with every gym.

Mine eat pretty much the same stuff I do, other than the birds. They go for the seeds I get at the Mart and whatever fruit I have on me.

[Small grin.] You know how some people like to fight or box? I think a lot of pokemon are like that too. As long as they don't faint, you're okay. It's like training troops. They like some push to reach their potential better, just don't go overboard.

[Snorts at the second part though.] More like low class, though he did work in a restaurant in the East Blue. The brat is Straw-Hat Luffy. Back home I'm going to catch him, but he's only eight here. So it's complicated. His chef is a pirate chef who cooks for their crew. He's not here anymore though.

I wouldn't need to broadcast a question I already knew the answer to! I already had help in that department so it only comes down to how we did in battle!

[And because everyone kept saying how easy Falkner was so. That was a minor ego boost in that direction...]

In what world are tasers "mild"? [Just as blunt.]

That's how it's said...? I'll be better prepared next time. This was the first challenge THE FIRST SUCCESSFUL CHALLENGE] so it was a learning process!

Mine I guess they're just mildy at best.

[Sentret seems like a very mild-mannered pokemon. He'd ask if all Sentret were like that, but it was a redundant question.]

I don't think any of them know or they won't tell. It's weird not knowing what it is, but it does taste okay. Then again, I'd rather know what I'm eating. What sort of meat did you have with you?

[The minute Johto's meat supply turns out to be something unsatisfactory he might turn vegan, but that's a discussion for another day.] It might be another pokemon, like some sort of edible species. Other than that, I have no clue.

[He's a little proud of the meal he's made, even if he's not entirely sure how good it is.]

Most of it's just stuff I put together for them.

What do you eat? [Who eats Pokemon food...]

Yeah. Levels go up and it's a different type. If you're going in order, Azalea town would be next, and it's a gym full of bug types.

Fruit? Beans. Bacon. [Uhh. Not a whole lot different than that. He doesn't eat very well 8|] Rice sometimes.

[Just gonna look at you strangely Killua...] What world do you come from again?

[Aw, right in the school-nads!!] I-I do okay! [When he's moving, yes, otherwise...]

[First birds and next are bugs? The idea doesn't sit too well with him... But he has a good idea what would defeat bug-types. He doesn't like it one bit. Sure, when video games are just video games there's no second guessing but now?!]

...They're weak against fire-types, right?

Bacon. [ -- He needs a cook in his life.] Do you like a certain type of cuisine?

Not from yours probably. If it's got places like Japan, America or Italy, I'm not from there then.

Fire, flying, ice. Think of what bugs normally don't like. One is a bug and fighting type though, so a bird would work best.

[... Quirking his head slightly, he gives a bit of a blank look.] What's cuisine? [Before he agrees to anything.]

[Sentret just knows that there's no one around who wants to bother her. They're all being taken care of by the fight-happy Spearow who's level grinding off-screen. Plus she has celery~. Omnomnom.]

None of the meat has much taste. [He hunts so he's used to really gamey meat. Everything else tastes kind of bland in comparison for him.] I want to know what animals it came from too. There's some that tastes kind of like boar, and something that's like a bird. Some kind of fish, too. And there's something that the woman called "beef". No deer, bear, or rabbit though. [I'll just assume that the menu in Johto is the same as on Earth.] There has to be some animal that's being killed for its meat. Meat can't be growing on plants.

"Put together"? [Because "cooking" for Apollo begins and ends with "holding meat over a fire until the blood stops flowing".]

WHICH YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN IF YOU HAD CORRECTLY FUNCTIONING THINK PAN CELLS.

I get that feeling too, especially with Birdie. Maybe I'll figure out a way to keep them trained and on their toes - maybe even take on that other gym. Birdie'll like that. [He seems a little sad, but it's probably nothing.]

The East Blue? [He's not even going to being to list the other parts that don't make sense...] So you were chasing a pirate around East Blue but he's a kid here? ...And he had a cook as a member of his crew.

I'm getting the hang of it. [Even if he doesn't much like the idea of attacking sentient insects.] I think Birdie could take down anything at this point.

[Vanitas, what nonsense are you spouting...] You know, cuisine! Food that's made in only certain parts of the world! That country's food of choice becomes their cuisine! It's about style! And flavors!! And traditions!!

Just make sure you don't go in unprepared again. Bugs do carry poison attacks sometimes.

Not really following. I went to different worlds often enough that I never bothered with learning the differences in their food. I ate what I found.

More opportunities for badges if nothing else.

The East Blue is our native ocean. I mostly chased Straw-Hat along the Grand Line, which is a different ocean. He stopped at Loguetown where I was stationed and he was the only pirate to ever get away, though he had help.

Correct though, he's a kid here, and he he has a cook as a member of his crew who was here. Also a kid version of his archaeologist was here once.

Right. [Apparently there are tasers but no Japan. Surely, someone must come from an alternate universe. It totally isn't Rin.]

What? I'm not a book-learner, but I learn just fine! [THANK YOU VERY MUCH MISTER SMARTY BOOK EATER.]

Really? [Rin's used to store-bough stuff. It tastes different with different seasonings?] I've never noticed... [That he failed to notice will bother him enough to make a more thorough examination of meat flavors.]

You've eaten bear?! ...They can't sell that sort of meat if it's not around. I haven't seen a single deer, bear, or rabbit around here. [Man, what world do you come from?!!] ...Maybe it's all tofu?

[...If he has to, Rin would show Apollo how to make food taste even better than recently killed.] Yeah. I just put it all in a pot and hoped for the best.
