Hey. ... You know, until this morning I thought I was still dreaming. This place is full of amazing things and so many different animals - pokémon!

[Yes, that's Rin, sitting inside of the pokemon center. If the tell-tale music wasn't enough of a giveaway, then certainly the decor was enough to tip off even the least observant of viewers. Rin doesn't seem too different than before. His hair is still unkempt, his clothes as clean as he could keep them, and even his smile was just as sunny. Despite appearances, he still looked far too tired. One could say he almost looked sad.]

I went to challenge that Falkner guy and he defeated my team pretty badly. [And there it was - that small flicker of something wrong -- ] Nurse Joy's taking care of them now. Falkner's looked so cool in flight! They were amazing! Poochy, Pidgey, and Blue did their best out there. Even before that we walked through that cave and saw so many other pokémon! I know Shi-- .. .. a friend of mine would have liked a few of them. [Rin becomes quiet for a moment. Bellsprout would be the sort of pokemon Shiemi would like, he thinks. He did look sad now, but he fought his frown with a smile.]

[Shit, he was stalling now, wasn't he? Rin shrugs his shoulders, suddenly unsure of what he wanted to ask in the first place.] ...These pokémon aren't just for fighting, are they? They're like animals. Hell, they're the closest things to animals Johto has. If I had to get a badge, why can't I fight that Falkner guy myself?

[He looks them up again to satisfy his curiosity.] Boxes? ...The PC thing, right?

[He's glad to hear that he's had the same thought as someone else but besides that, only one thing sticks out to him.]

Yeah. [He doesn't really have a problem with it. Going home = bad, so he's quite happy here]

Yeah, those things. The pokemon storage system. It's pretty useful.

You probably will, if you end up with more than six pokemon.

I didn't think I'd end up with as many as I have, but you kind of have to change your party for different gym leaders and stuff.

There's the pokemon storage system. You know the PC in the pokemon center? Any trainer can use it to store pokemon there. They go in a box and you can switch them around as you need them.

Wow, a marine vice admiral... What's it like to be a marine?

[He's never met an army man. Would saluting be a good idea? Most likely]

[He imagines the storage system would look a lot like a series of cardboard boxes with a pokemon's name outside of it. Seems rational to him, though impractical.]

...How does that work? Do they live inside a computer's storage system?

I guess so. I don't really know. It's just what people do so I've been following along. They seem fine, the pokemon.

[Oh god Rin you'll kill him with cute if you do. No one salutes Smoker, not even his own men. They call him cutesy insubordinate nicknames instead.]

You couldn't ask for a better life. Fighting for justice, sailing all over the world. So long as you don't mind the danger involved.

I don't know. I think I remember him saying something about inheriting the gym from his father, but that doesn't say anything great.

[Sound questionable to him!] If you say so... How many do you have?

That just makes him sound like a bratty rich kid. Damn, I can't believe my team and I were beaten by a guy like that!

That sounds so cool!! What sort of danger do you face? Rough waters? Mutiny? Pirates?!

Yes. Pirates, sea monsters, storms, typhoons -- the Grand Line is a truly insane place, and the New World even more so. It makes Johto look perfectly logical and reasonable in comparison.

Then train harder and you'll do better. That he's a bratty rich kid should be incentive.

Though I guess she must've shaped up some if she took on a gym.

And, yeah, she did shape up. [And she got served.]

[Oh. Oh that is good incentive.]

[ -- it's like a pirate movie...] Your world sounds awesome. I want to go there instead of staying here in Johto! Have you fought a lot of pirates? Did they win? Are you a master of the seven seas?

[How many pokemon were really in this world...] Has anyone ever seen them all?

Maybe? I don't know. New types keep showing up, but there's this legendary trainer called Red who's probably seen a lot.
